wr3n asked: Would love your twin cities area dining recommendations in two categories - cajun and bbq. Thanks in advance!
Hey wr3n, I have to make a confession or two. You really stumped me with your question, which is a major reason why I have procrastinated so long on answering it! (Oh, and I pseudodated a dude who was crazy about BBQ and could have easily answered your question, so I was having a minor avoidance PTSDish reaction).
ANYWAY! I have to say that I’ve only had Big Daddy’s in St. Paul, and I thought it was very good. They do their BBQ in these huge smokers, and the meat comes out very tender. Those beef ribs are huge! It looks from their website that they’ll be back in action March 1st. The owners are really friendly and will talk to you all about BBQ. Oh, hey, I forgot that I took some pictures there in September 2009 at their previous location:
Then there’s always Korean BBQ, which is a whole different situation. That direction, I defer to my favorite hole-in-the-wall, Dong Yang in Columbia Heights. Not too expensive, like at King’s or Hoban, and good flavor.
As far as Cajun, I’m at a total loss. If you were in Chicago, I’d say the Dixie Kitchen & Bait Shop. But we’re not in Chicago, so how about some of you Twin Cities folks help out??? Leave a comment!
