Best Roti in Toronto? Sure!
One of my colleagues did a little research on good eats in Toronto, and she came across Gandhi Cuisine on Yelp - 4.5 stars and cheap? Let’s go!
Gandhi’s is the best cheap, divey, hole-in-the-wall Indian food I’ve ever had (Punjabi Dhaba in Cambridge, MA comes second). Each roti order is about 5” by 8” and enough to share with 2-4 people. Seriously, it is a lot of food. Everything was great, but the broken record of “oh my god, this is so good” came mostly in response to the Saag Paneer (creamy spinach with indian cheese) and Butter Chicken (butter, need I say more?). Apparently, several chowhounds agree.
Dear God, can you please make a Gandhi’s appear somewhere in the Twin Cities? Please? Maybe the lack of any equivalent is a blessing in disguise because this stuff is cheap and dangerously delicious.
Some highlights from the massive dim sum lunch at Lai Wah Heen, located inside the Metropolitan Hotel in downtown Toronto. Most of the traditional dim sum dishes were available in addition to the more extravagant offerings (abalone in fried rice? really?). Spendy, for sure, but very much worth it. Especially when you haven’t had dim sum in almost two years (I know!).
